regret

today in class two of my friends were regretting opting for a cs major. they wished they did electrical or mechanical engineering instead because that's what their respective dads suggested to them. they don't like the degree they're pursuing but are in too far to quit of course. me being myself, told them bluntly that if they were in either of those programs they would say the same thing about cse. and of course they agreed.

anyways what i realized from all that is that regret is useless. it doesn't do anything other than make you doubt yourself and paralyze you. i don't think that regret is a natural human feeling but that it is taught to us by society. its been passed down from centuries and no one really questions it. some people even destroy their lives because of it.

if you keep regretting your decisions, one day you will be too scared to make any.

but i also think that the fear of feeling regret can be a good thing at times. yes it can paralyze you so you are afraid to act but in the right moment it can force you to consider your options and consequences, and make a decision. it all depends on the situation though. in general i still think that regret is not worth putting energy into.

all you can really do is do shit, and correct course.

anyways idk where i'm going with this but i guess the message to take away is that be aware of the feeling of regret and let go of it. then think of what you can do and just do.

also i did my first successful negotiation today with a cycle rickshaw driver. i negotiated from 80 to 70 but paid 80 anyways because that guy worked hard and deserved it. if i was richer i'd give him a fat tip but its okay. it was good negotiation practice and its only getting better from here.

P.S. i wrote a whole blog and it got deleted because i didn't save it and tried to preview.
